Setting Sail for Social 2.0: Turning Ferries into Fan Favourites

The brief
Brittany Ferries wanted a social presence that reflected life onboard: real, multilingual, and full of personality. With two new hybrid-LNG ships launching, multiple markets to engage, and a younger audience to attract, the objective was clear: create a video-first content ecosystem that highlighted crew, destinations, and the everyday magic of ferry travel, while driving engagement, followers, and ultimately bookings.
The idea
Ferry travel has its own rhythm: early departures with coffee in hand, engineers fine-tuning the engines, families sprawling across lounges, and regulars who know the best sun decks. We embedded ourselves in crossings, explored the new ships, met the crew, and captured the details that only surface when you’re really there. From Mont St Michel adventures with Pierre Le Bear to chef spotlights in the galley, every corner offered a story. TikTok, Instagram, and Facebook became stages for playful, story-led content that invited audiences onboard, showing ferry life in all its human, joyous glory.
The making of
We ran four onboard ‘content missions’, building a rich library of videos that captured everything from low-fi bridge tours and food prep to timely trends to cinematic destination reels. For every piece, we tailored the content specifically for UK, French, and Spanish audiences, adding localised captions, humour, and music to ensure it landed culturally and felt native to each market. Our posting schedules kept feeds buzzing, with weekly posts and Reels for each country. Crew-led clips, destination recommendations (crêpes in Cherbourg, anyone?), and new ship content reinforced a human-first, personality-driven presence that put the people, places, and moments of ferry life front and centre across all platforms, including their newly launched TikTok channel.
The results
The campaign delivered 28.5M organic impressions and TikTok grew from a non-existent presence to 2,000 followers with 7 videos surpassing 10k views. On Instagram we saw:
UK followers rise +31%, with a +21.5% increase in engagement and +201.9% increase in video views
France engagement +78% increase, and +25.5% increase in video views
Spain following increase by +16.8%
