What’s new on Instagram?
April 2023

Instagram has been on the cutting edge of social media for years, and they continue to innovate with their latest updates. These updates are focused on creators and making it easier for them to produce high-quality content that engages with their audience. Read on to discover some of Instagram’s latest innovations:

No more endless scrolling for trending audio

One of the new updates includes a dedicated trending section that will help users to discover the latest and most popular Reel audios along with popular hashtags. The section will display top trending songs on Reels. You will be able to see how many times the audio has been used and then tap it to use it yourself or save the audio for later. You will also be able to see what the top trending topics and hashtags are on Reels. To access the new dedicated destination for trending content, enter your Professional Dashboard and select the “Check today’s Reels Trends” option. From there, you will be taken to a “Reels Trends” page where you can find trending audio and hashtags.

Move over Premier Pro

Long gone are the days of frustration when you can’t quite get your clips to align. This next update is focused on making it easier for creators to produce high-quality Reels. The improved Reel editing tool has improved the way creators edit Reels on Instagram, as the app has brought together video clips, audio, stickers and text under a unified editing screen. This change makes it easier to align and time parts of Reels to the right moments in a more visual way.

New metric alert

Instagram has added new analytics that help creators to track their engagement and see how their Reels content is performing. This includes two new metrics. ‘Total watch time’ will capture the total amount of time a Reel was played, including amount of time spent playing a Reel. The second metric sends a notification to users when they receive a new follow directly from a Reel. This is a game changer for understanding how Reels are contributing directly to growth.

Goodbye Link Bio

Instagram has today launched one of its most requested feature updates, giving users the ability to add up to five links in their IG bio, expanding on its capacity to drive traffic. Instagram says “the update will make it easier for creators and other users to highlight their passions, bring awareness to causes they care about, promote brands they love, showcase their personal business, and more.”

Overall, these updates show that Instagram is committed to supporting creators and making it easier for them to produce high-quality content. This huge surge of improvements have made us reflect on the days where Instagram was purely for selfies of you and your mates throwing up a peace sign, slapping on the Aden filter and calling it a day. Oh, how far we’ve come from that.
