‘But TikTok isn’t a search engine?’ We hear you cry 😳 Technically you would be correct, however it still has its own search bar, making SEO an important part of the platform. And don’t just take our word for it – Google’s own data found that over 50% of young people primarily use TikTok for search. So, without further ado, here are our tips for boosting your brand’s presence: a guide to TikTok wizardry 🪄 

 

Start with Your Audience 

One of the foundational pillars of TikTok SEO is a deep understanding of your audience. By knowing who they are and what kind of content they enjoy, you can create content that resonates with them, and crafting titles and descriptions that align with your audience’s interests makes your content more discoverable in TikTok searches. Tailoring your content to what your audience wants to see or is actively searching for is key to TikTok success.

Dive into the world of keyword research to uncover the words and phrases your target audience uses when seeking content like yours (we like SEMrush or Ahrefs). Once armed with these, simply start typing in the TikTok search bar and let the magic happen. Aka, TikTok will predict the rest of each phrase, according to popularity.

Now to start weaving them into your content in the form of titles, descriptions, and captions. Not only does this include any on-screen text, but it also means spoken word. Yes, that’s right, TikTok’s algorithm places importance on videos where keywords are audibly expressed, so ensure creators featured in the video say them out loud to give your content an extra boost in the platform’s rankings.
