It’s Just One Straw
July 2022

By Lottie Langley

Plastic, it’s everywhere and we really do mean everywhere. Sometimes it’s unavoidable and other times, perhaps we could be doing more to avoid it. This month is #PlasticFreeJuly and we know it can be a bit overwhelming to take part when you just don’t know where to start. We’ve highlighted four social accounts that we’d recommend following right now. Who knows, with the help of these pages, you might be saying goodbye to plastic quicker than you think.

To jump right in, we aren’t here to judge. Hands up who treats themselves to a Starbucks when heading into the office? And take it away in a single use plastic cup, plastic straw included? *raises hand*. We get it, plastic is everywhere but there are small things we can do to change our behaviour.

Now let’s get into the guys who really know their stuff. @cariumaplanet is rooting for a greener tomorrow, making sustainable trainers and planting two trees for every pair sold. Not only that, @cariumaplanet is using its Instagram page to share some top tips this #PlasticFreeJuly to help individuals make a change too.

Next up we’ve got @brightly.eco, who is on a mission to create an online community that wants to change the world.

Brightly uses its social page to inform users and share easy swaps. Saving the world alone can seem daunting but @brightly.eco doesn’t make it seem that way, showing that a simple everyday swap really can make a difference.

These guys don’t hold anything back. @uselessplastic uses social media to show us the harsh reality of single use plastic and the waste it leaves. How many single use coffee cups do you get through in a month? It’s food for thought, right?

Finally, we’ve got @easyecotips, the account determined to show you that going green is much easier AND cheaper than you think. How does going sustainable, plastic free and saving £587 over three years sound to you? Pretty great, right?

We’re not saying it’s easy to go completely #plasticfree, but there are certainly small things we can all do to make a difference. Start today by following our top four accounts and see what changes you can make this month. Let us know how you get on.
