Introducing X: The New Twitter
July 2023

The Twitterverse has been sent into orbit, as Musk has announced a major rebranding. There is a solemn feeling in the office today, as we mourn the soon-to-be loss of the little blue bird that has sat on our phone screens for the last 17 years. In replace of the iconic Twitter logo is ‘X’. Is this the symbol of a new era in social media?Let’s take a closer look…

Elon Musk, the tech mogul and CEO of X Corp, unveiled the striking new white ‘X’ logo on a black background. This signifies a bold departure for Twitter, as we know it. The desktop version of the social network has already adopted the new branding, with the mobile app expected to follow suit soon. But that’s not all – the rebranding extends beyond the logo. Elon Musk, in his relentless pursuit of ‘innovation’, also announced that tweets will be replaced by x’s, and supposedly ushering in a fresh and dynamic feel to the platform. This makes us beg the question ‘if it ain’t broke, why fix it?’. This move is part of his grand vision to create a super app called X, an innovative social media platform that’s been in the works for quite some time. The change is happening fast, and Elon Musk is leaving no stone unturned, to bring his vision to life. He’s updated his Twitter profile
picture to the new X logo and added ‘X.com’ to his bio, showcasing his unwavering commitment to the new venture.

For some, the shift to super-apps is not entirely new. Apps like India’s PayTM and China’s WeChat, have already been integral parts of daily life for many users in Asia, offering a wide range of services through a seamless finance system. Elon Musk’s ambition with X is to take it a step further and create an “everything app” that
transcends traditional social media boundaries. What does this mean? Our guess is as good as yours at this point.

Naturally, such a rapid rebranding has raised concerns, particularly regarding security. Cybersecurity experts caution that phishing attempts could increase during this transition phase. Users must be cautious about clicking on links that claim to be part of the new X platform but are, in reality, scams aiming to steal sensitive
information.
As we bid farewell to the beloved blue bird, it’s worth mentioning that Elon Musk has a curious fascination with the letter ‘X’. From his early venture, X.com (an online banking platform) to wanting to change the Paypal name to X, his AI startup (xAI) to the name of his first child with musician, Grimes (X Æ A-12 Musk). Now, we wait for the full rollout of X and witness how it will transform the social media landscape.
