How to Use AI in Social Media Marketing
April 2025

By Cait McNamara

AI has officially joined the marketing team. From customer insights to creative brainstorming, it’s become a handy sidekick for social media marketers. But here’s the thing, AI is a tool, not a takeover and the best results come when you use it like an intern: helpful, efficient, and great at the groundwork, but still needing your refinement and human touch.

Here’s how to make the most of AI across your social media strategy.

AI vs Human Originality

AI is brilliant at tasks that require structure, logic, and speed. But it can’t replace that spark of human creativity. It doesn’t understand your brand voice as well as you do or get why a sarcastic meme might resonate more with your audience than a polished post.

Think of AI as your brainstorming buddy, not your final editor. It’s great at starting points, but the magic comes when you add your brand’s personality and your sense of humour on top.

Work Smarter, Not Harder

Let AI take the admin off your plate. Tools like Fathom can transcribe and summarise meeting notes, while Monday  or Notion have AI tools that can help you organise your content calendar, schedule tasks, and track progress with minimal manual input. Less time creating complicated spreadsheets = more time creating great content.

Precision Posting

AI can also help you double-check copy and refine your tone. ChatGPT is useful for tidying up lengthy emails and meeting notes but if you want to go even further, try running your copy through Hemingway for clarity, or Grammarly for spelling and grammar checks. And if you’re posting in multiple languages, DeepL offers impressively accurate translations that go beyond Google Translate’s robotic tone.

Research Without the Rabbit Holes

When you’re researching new trends or content ideas, AI can save you hours. TikTok’s Symphony AI tools help creators and brands analyse trends, scripts, and even optimise content with keywords and SEO. For broader content research, tools like NotebookLM can help you gather, sort, and organise ideas in one place.

Beat Creative Blocks

Staring at a blank screen? Let AI help you break through the block. Use ChatGPT for content ideas, hooks, or campaign themes. Need visuals? Try DALL·E or Canva AI to generate image ideas and templates, or DeepAI to create visuals from written prompts.

The Best of Both Worlds

Using AI doesn’t mean giving up your creativity, it means freeing up your time to let your creativity shine. While you let AI handle the repetitive bits and support your workflow, you can have more space to focus on strategy, storytelling, and what makes your brand you.

Just remember to always add the human layer. That’s what turns a decent post into something scroll-stopping.
