Have You Seen These New Instagram Updates?
September 2024

Instagram, u k hun? Over the past week, the social platform has been rolling out a flurry of new updates, from changes to Broadcast Channels to jazzy new carousel posts. Let’s take a deeper dive into what’s new…

  1. Sliding into Stories

With more people sliding into DMs, Instagram is keen for users to move their chats in the app itself. One of their latest features allows users to leave comments on stories, which will be visible to everyone who views that story, sparking public conversations in a new area of the app. Not a fan? You can easily switch it off. But for creators, this could be a great way to encourage more engagement and get their content in front of fresh faces.

  1. Broadcast Channels Get Chatty

There are also some big changes to Broadcast Channels. Now, some creators can allow subscribers to leave comments on messages within the channel. Is it just us or does this go against the whole purpose of a Broadcast Channel?

To avoid these channels becoming one massive group chat, replies are not visible in the main channel feed. Instead, replies can only be seen when subscribers tap on an individual message or announcement.

  1. New Fonts, Stickers and More

It’s time to get those creative juices flowing as Instagram just dropped a new range of fonts, stickers, text animation and more. The update we’re most excited about, though, is that it’s now super easy to add text and stickers to grid posts. You can even animate the text to really make your post stand out from the crowd.

It’s all part of IG’s efforts to stop Gen Z from migrating over to TikTok, where users can already post photos with stickers.

  1. Grid Post Collages Are Back

After retiring its ‘Layout’ app earlier this year, Instagram is working on a new custom collage feature. The upcoming ‘Collages’ tool will use images from your camera roll to create easy-to-share collages. Think Polaroid vibes.

This type of collage-style content is already popular on Pinterest, particularly among the younger audience that IG is so desperately trying to win over, so it will be interesting to see how this new feature plays out.
